Cheapy sample sizes

So Christine the Curmudgeon ordered some nifty new Bare Escentuals stuff from Sephora.  Sephora offers your choice of some free samples of other products with a $50+ order.  So one of the items I picked was this stuff called Dermadoctor Picture Porefect, which is supposed to reduce the size of your pores.

The only thing is, the sample was so small, just enough for one use.  How can you know after using a skin care product just ONCE, if it is worth buying or not?  Shouldn’t they give you at least a few days’ worth, so you can really put it to the test?

It’s not the same as, say, a free sample tasting of Starbucks coffee. A taste test is completely different.  You don’t need to have several days’ worth to know whether or not you like the coffee.  It’s the same when you go to a brewpub, they will often give you a small tasting glass of a beer, and that’s enough to decide if you like it or not.

But this skincare product costs $40.  It does say on the package that you may see an average of a 29% reduction in pore size 15 minutes after application…but I still think giving a bigger sample would go a long way in getting some people to buy this stuff.  It seems to get good reviews on Sephora, but what works for one person does not always work for others.

Oh well.  I’ll try the sample, and see if it does anything for me.
