This Villager Has SPOKEN!
We keep hearing about how “it takes a village” to raise a child. Yet, when any particular child acts like an obnoxious brat, those of us who are not the parents of said child, usually do NOT have the right to speak out, for the most part.
I know that there are some readers here who will not agree with me, but, YES…we DO have the right to speak up. Screw this “oh, they are just kids” bullshit! There is only so much we should be expected to tolerate before we feel the need to speak out.
Today, Christine and Mr, Curmudgeon were at a minor league ball game. Our seats are in the back row, just in front of the concourse, but there is a railing there, with the bars on said railing wide enough apart for little kid feet to fit through. There are no seats there, people just stand there, for no good reason that I know of.
Then, all of a sudden, Mr. Curmudgeon gets KICKED in the head by a small foot clad in one of those fugly pink Crocs clogs. He is much less nasty and abrasive than I am, and didn’t say anything. Then the kid kicked his head a second time. That is when I turned around, looked the little brat in the eye, and said, “excuse me, but you are kicking my husband in the head, please stop climbing on the railing like that!”
I almost expected the usual “HOW DARE YOU talk to my precious little Suzy in that tone of voice”, from the kid’s mother, and was prepared to fight this one out with her and ballpark management. Knowing the way this ballpark runs things, it would have been Christine the Curmudgeon – 1, Idiot Parent – 0.
But, for once, the mother of little Suzy, or whatever the hell her name was, did make her stop doing what she was doing. But she seemed kind of pissed about it all, as she was very busy yapping with someone on her cell phone. She seemed to have been pissed to have had to have her phone call interrupted so she could…gasp…keep her brat from physically ASSAULTING a fan at the ballpark! The mother did make the kid stop, and they moved to some other place, no doubt to let little Suzy annoy someone else.
I will NOT apologize for saying something to this kid, and her stupid, inattentive mother. We have the right to be at a ball game, or anywhere else, without being kicked in the head by some bratty kid. For years, we have remained silent over this crap, because of negative reactions from the parents of these brats. But no more, those days are over. If little Suzy’s mother gave us so much as one word of crap over what I said to the kid, I’d have a ballpark security person over in two seconds flat, and these people would likely have been kicked out, if they did not cooperate with ballpark staff. If necessary, yes, we would have filed assault charges. I don’t care if it’s a kid, kids are supposed to be supervised by parents, and if parents let their kids kick people in the head, they deserve what they may get.
Christine the Curmudgeon is sick to death of the whole “it’s just a kid” excuse, and she is also sick of the “it takes a village to raise a child” crap.
I live in the village, pay taxes there, and therefore, I should have some say.
