Mums across the pond: putting on real clothes = “all dolled up”.

Christine the Curmudgeon saw a small bit on the local news last night, about how a supermarket chain over in Great Britain has instituted a dress code.  Nothing complicated…as the sign here says, footwear must be worn, and no sleepwear.  You can read an article at The Daily Mail here.

Anyhoo, some of these women, mostly mothers, are whining that Tesco, the supermarket in question here, is being “snobbish” by asking people to put on regular clothes before going grocery shopping.  WAAAAH, but I don’t have TIME to get “all dolled up”, they whine.

Sheesh.  You’d think that the store expects these women to appear at the store in full makeup, hair perfectly done, wearing some designer dress.  That is certainly not the case.  All they are asking is that people not wear pajamas in public, and wear something on their feet, which I agree with.  Blue jeans and sweat pants/shirts are acceptable.  They could be on their way back from horseback riding, and come into the store wearing their equestrian apparel, for all anyone cares.

Here in the United States, it is generally required by law to wear some sort of footwear into most stores, especially if they sell food.  How damned hard is it to stick your feet into a pair of flip-flops?  And how hard is it to just pull on a shirt and a pair of pants before going out of the house?

These women are just plain lazy!
